befriended me when we both lived at the service center, when college and I were “on a break.” Taught me to make begos, a hot kielbasa-cabbage-sauerkraut dish. “Begos, beer, and little girls,” he’d say in Polish. He brewed the beer for his own wedding.

Was his wife extremely young?
Naaah, and he wasn't even Polish. His roommate had taught him both the recipe and the phrase, and we got a sick kick out of it. (His wife was extremely great, and I was really happy for him.)
Brews his own beer? Non-Pollock speaking Polish? Knows how to make Bigos? I am in love. Too bad he is married.
PS Doesn't every Polish dish contain Kielbasa or cabbage? ;-) Hey, pass the Golabkis!
BK: You and Kevin? Yeah, maybe.
Are you a member of the Brethren? Is that one of the"peace" churches(like the Quakers, Mennonites, etc)?
Bridgett: You got it. I grew up in the Church of the Brethren, which is indeed one of the historic peace churches, like Mennonites and Quakers. (I don't go to church anymore, though.)
Beth, one of my dearest friends at University, was Brethren. She's disappeared off the face of the earth, no doubt to become a missionary somewhere.
Still amazes me that someone so thoroughly religious and devoted to Jesus Christ could have such sexy taste in lingerie.
I'mnot sure Jesus had much to say about lingerie...
