Introverts will relate: I can't initiate conversation with anyone I barely knew years ago. When Michael gets a sex change, I treat her like I would anyone else: by waiting to be spoken to first. Does she think I'm shy or a judgmental bitch?

Try an ice-breaker or two: Ask her if changing her name has created a different psychic vibration, numerically speaking. Then ask, with wide-eyed innocence, if she keeps her dick in a jar on a shelf at home. That'll get the conversation rolling.

This is someone I run into every few years or so, so the whole scenario doesn't come up too often. I'd say lucky for me, except if it was someone I ran into often, I would have resolved it by now.
