221/365 Another Valerie and Lori

They were my friends and nemeses, my first-chair foes. For three years we battled for one, two, and three, staying after band practice for challenges, playing whatever Mr. Christy would throw at us and triplets, always triplets: the elusive yet perfect three against two.

I used to live upstairs from a Portuguese family whose son was named Elvis. He practised his sax every night. All he knew was the theme from M*A*S*H.

Susan, Deloney: Yes, more claret, less clarinet. I was (stereotypically) a flute player. The sax would have been great. Coincidentally, I went to hear Alan Alda speak last night. (Not that I have any indication that he was a sax player.)

Oregon birds (nonorigami sort) I saw included crossbills (a first for me) and Clark's nutcrackers...
