Our banter spiraled to such staggering philosophical and humorous heights that of course we offered the waiter we met on our annual Adirondack lodge trip our pullout sofa as he searched for a job in DC. He failed to mention that pesky painkiller addiction.

On another topic, I believe you were curious about the identity of Paul, my "famous jazz musician." It was Paul Desmond. I'm a jazz fan, too.
Susan--I know it may be cliche, but last night I threw on "Take Five" and toasted Paul Desmond, you, and the Great Blackout. Great story. What a talent. Thanks for the ID--I know the point of the post wasn't name-dropping, so I appreciate the inside scoop.
Umarriageable--Both philosophy and the lack thereof seem to cause much trouble. Which leads me to ponder: How can we possibly get out of trouble?
