At first surgery averse, she’s now the poster child for the prophylactic hip replacement. “Do it before it hurts!” she incites. She’s given up pigeon, little else. Lali is a wonderful name, but it feels so good to speak the full one: Eulalia, Eulalia.

I love it when the terribly old-fashioned names (think Eulalie Mackechnie Shinn from The Music Man) start coming back into usage. If I hear of another Tiffany or Dakota, I may have to climb a clocktower and do some serious damage.
"Eu" means good, and "lalia" means to chatter or babble. Does your Eulalia talk a lot and make everyone smile?
I've also read translations of "good speech," which I tried to capture in the last line. My Eulalia does make everyone smile, no doubt in part by talking just the right amount.

To you: that is a beautiful name. I'm not sure if I'm picking up on that hip replacement thing, however... but then abstraction in such posts is fitting. Sometimes all the descriptions in the world can't instantiate a true character or lively spirit.
P: The hip replacement is literal. She just had one although at 61(?), she was really young for that. She was walking well within a couple of days. I've never seen anyone bounce back so fast from major surgery. Of course, she's always been an active woman!
LOL. Here I'm thinking why does she eat pigeon? ...and... What the hell does having a hip replacement have to do with giving up eating city road kill? Then I clicked the link.
Otter: I didn't even see that possible meaning, but I have to say, one of the last words I got rid of to get to 44 was pose after pigeon. If that reading had occurred to me, I might have picked another word. In other news, I ordered squab in a restaurant once, and it was great.
