It wasn’t so much what my favorite camp counselor and I wrote to each other, it was what we wrote it on: toilet paper, hot pink paper rolled in a tube, a jigsaw puzzle, a balloon that had to be inflated, a barf bag.

Now that sounds like someone you'd want to keep in touch with over the years!
Being self-sealing, barf bags make handy envelopes. I usually take them when I fly so I can mail odd things I discover on the trip to unsuspecting folks back home...but the balloon...I will have to try that...
That collection of letters should be in the MOMA.
