134/365 A Fourth Tom

He, Eddie, and I bailed on a French quiz and drove to Princeton: the town where I was born, the school where Tom was headed. I’d hoped that such impulsivity would cement a friendship, but it was 25 years before we shared a beer.

Were you both speaking French over the beer? That would have been a nice, ironic touch.

So did that beer cement a friendship?

Deloney: Yes, it would have been. My guess is our French was likely better (not good, mind you) at 18. This was a post-25-year-high-school-reunion beer.

FRA: Cement would be a big (heavy) word. We had a great time but have had little e-mail contact since. However, I think we'll always like each other, so maybe that counts.
