282/365 Perry

Our state rep needed petition signatures, so he went where the people’d be on Saturday morning: the dump. We were new in town, and only registered voters could sign, so he administered the Freeman’s Oath to us right then and there. Welcome to Vermont.

Now officially called the Voter’s Oath, it goes something like this: “I solemnly swear (or affirm) that whenever I give my vote or suffrage, touching any matter that concerns the State of Vermont, I will do it so as in my conscience I shall judge will most conduce to the best good of the same, as established by the Constitution, without fear or favor of any person.” (Vermont Constitution, Chapter II, Section 42.)

On a completely different note, my Internet service is down at my place, and I've driven miles to work somewhere today where I could get online. If there's a long silence, that's what's going on.

I remember taking the Freeman's Oath. It was one of my proudest moments.

Aren't you the "live free or die" state? I mean, that's a lot more powerful than "show me"...

Actually, that's New Hampshire, although I've also heard "Live, Freeze, or Die" for them. The Green Mountain State's motto is apparently "Freedom and Unity." Hmmm. Perhaps you will now say, "Show me."

Perry was quite enterprising - going to the dump for signatures.

Vermont sounds like an interesting place to live.

Susan: I figure if we can say he'd, we can say people'd. Yeah, that pesky word count.

Cedar: You bet it is! (That is, when I stop working long enough to notice.)
